Frequently Asked Questions

What is a bread share?

Similar to farm share programs in which there is a direct link between local farmers and consumers by allowing members to purchase a share of a farmer's crop before it is grown each season, a bread share is a direct link between the bake house and consumer in which the consumer purchases a share of bread before it is baked. In this model a portion of the bake house breads are available for sale through a community supported system.

Also similar to a farm share in which the exact type of produce may not be known in advance, the exact type of bread will vary in shape and flavor, from artisan round loaves to panned breads and from earthy whole wheat to enriched sweeter loaves and anything in between.

What if I'm not home for the delivery?

You do not need to be home for your bread share delivery. At this time deliveries cannot be rescheduled to another date. We hope to be able to offer that flexibility at a later date.  At this point however, consider sharing your share with a neighbor,  as we are able to accommodate a change to the bread share delivery address within Hawthorn neighborhood with at least 24 hours. notice.

How do I keep my bread fresh
In short, fresh bread is best eaten within a few days or consider freezing it to preserve it longer.  Storing it in paper is recommended if you plan to eat it within a couple of days. Otherwise, plastic can be useful for freezing. See this link from Food & Wine Magazine on 5 Secrets to Storing Bread for more: https://www.foodandwine.com/cooking-techniques/storing-bread-tips
