For the love of bread
We are a home bakehouse and Illinois registered cottage food operation, offering handcrafted bread fresh out of the oven to your doorstep. This means there are no added preservatives.
Currently serving the Hawthorn Club neighborhood.
Our Story
We are not classically trained bakers, or really trained bakers at all. We have not attended culinary school, apprenticed in Europe, or owned a bakery. I learned baking in my mother's kitchen as a child, through lots of library bread books, and lots and lots of practice. My husband grew up with his grandfather owning a bakery, and is our taster in chief, along with our neighbors who have been kind enough to eat all kinds of experimental loaves. And why we do this is for the love of bread!
As Trevor Wilson of Breadwerx puts it quite simply "Bread is good. Forget about gluten for a moment. Forget about carbs. This isn’t a discussion about whether bread is healthy or not. I’m simply talking about the joy of eating good bread.
Because it is a joy.
In all its forms, bread is a wondrous thing. And even better than eating bread is making bread. Bread bakers are a fortunate bunch. They have the know-how to take a few basic ingredients and turn them into something almost magical.
Yes, magical.
Handmade bread is simply that good. It holds a place in our hearts that most foods will never attain. Bread is culture. Bread is community."
And so with that, we aim to bring the alchemy of fresh baked, homemade bread from our kitchen to yours, directly to you - our community, in the form of bread shares.
